On the 2nd November, at the Xixi Campus of Zhejiang University (ZJU), WLO COO Dr. Cristina Ortega represented the WLO in the signing and licensing ceremony of the World Leisure Center of Excellence (WLCE) recognition awarded to the Chinese University. Prof. GU Jianmin, Dean of College of Education, and former WLO Board member Prof. Dr. Lijun (Jane) ZHOU, Deputy Dean of the same College, represented ZJU at the ceremony. As part of the ceremony, Dr. Cristina Ortega delivered a lecture on the future of Leisure Studies.
ZJU’s candidature to become a WLCE, together of that of the University of São Paulo (USP), were presented and approved during the last WLO Board of Directors meeting, celebrated last August in São Paulo, prior to the start of the 2018 WL Congress.
A few days later, on the 7th November, WLO COO Dr. Cristina Ortega delivered a speech at the School of International Studies of ZJU. The presentation, titled “Challenges of International Organizations – Presentation of the World Leisure Organization” was framed in the Lecture Series of the “Global Engagement Program” at ZJU.
In her presentation, Dr. Ortega shared with students WLO’s approach to the global promotion of leisure, as well as the main challenges and some practical views on running an international organization derived from her experience as COO. As an outcome, and based on a meeting with the department leading the presentation, some students – whose mother tongue is Chinese and can speak fluent English and Spanish – showed interest in joining the Scientific and Technical Office in Bilbao as interns.
