Goals
- Build a repository of research findings and promising practices related to leisure and aging.
- Enhance communication between L&A SIG members.
- Provide information about upcoming events and opportunities of direct relevance to leisure and aging.
- Encourage participation in World Leisure Organization Congresses and other conferences.
Introduction and rationale
Members of the Leisure and Aging Special Interest Group of the World Leisure organization welcome those seeking a better understanding of the leisure patterns and challenges of older individuals in all countries. Recognizing the leisure experience can be critical to well-being in later life, the L&A SIG seeks to build a community of scholars concerned with enhancing the conditions of leisure for older people worldwide.
- Compiled and distributed newsletter in December and June of each year which identified resources (newly published studies on leisure and aging), solicited further collaboration, encouraged participation in WLO events. Also provided updated bibliographies (one of them themed) with the December newsletter.
- To Continue with same services in preparing and providing newsletters to L&A SIG members as well as updating bibliographies on research and writing on leisure and aging.
- To organize a joint webinar on the subject of management of community leisure services and opportunities for aging populations is being arranged with the Leisure Management Special Interest Group for November 8, 2023.
- The sponsorship of special session on Leisure and Aging at the World Leisure Organization Congress in Dunedin, New Zealand in December.
